Healing & Transformation
Do you carry more than everyone else?
You are the one people depend on. The fixer, the organiser, the one who notices what needs doing. You keep going, largely because it does not look like anyone else will.
You have set boundaries. You have been told to stop taking it all on. And still the weight comes back, because boundaries manage the behavior without ever touching the belief underneath it.
In your own words
Does any of this sound familiar?
You are the one everyone calls, and you have no one to call.
You step in before anyone has asked, and then resent that nobody asked.
Resting makes you feel guilty rather than rested.
You find it almost impossible to let someone you love struggle.
You say yes while something inside you is quietly saying no.
If you stopped holding it together, you genuinely believe it would fall apart.
None of this means something is wrong with you. It means a belief is running that you have not yet had the chance to look at.
What is actually running
Somewhere in your past, you quietly concluded:
You did not choose these consciously. You may never have said them out loud. But one of them will sound familiar, and that one has been shaping your decisions ever since.
"If I do not fix this, something bad will happen."
"I am responsible for how other people feel."
"My value comes from being needed."
"If I let people down, I will not be loved."
"If I protest or stand up for myself, I will be attacked."
These become invisible rules. Nobody handed them to you on paper, and you have never once put them on trial — yet they quietly govern your relationships, your work, your rest, and your health.
The pattern underneath
Why boundaries alone never quite work
Most people arrive here having already tried the sensible things. Boundaries. Delegating. Reminding themselves they cannot control everything. Traditional therapy, sometimes medication. And still the pattern returns, because none of it questioned the belief generating the pattern.
Somewhere early on, being needed became the price of belonging. A child works out very quickly what makes them safe in a household, and then spends thirty years paying that price without ever renegotiating it.
This is why rest feels dangerous rather than restorative. If your worth is what you carry, putting it down is not relaxation — it is a threat to your standing.
The work itself
What changes when the belief goes
We do not teach you to cope with the pressure more skilfully. The Six Steps go to the belief itself and undo it at the root, and what follows surprises people. The compulsion to carry everyone begins to fade. Helping becomes a choice rather than an obligation. Genuine compassion replaces duty, and creativity replaces the pressure to perform. You do not become less loving. You become loving without the invoice attached.

Choose Again
Six Steps to Freedom
The book is built for exactly this. It takes the moment you feel compelled to step in and fix something, and shows you what you believe will happen if you do not.
Diederik wrote the book so the steps would not depend on him. You can read it and work them alone at your kitchen table.
"Direct and eloquent… a practical six-step program to self-liberation."
Gabor Maté, MD
