Support this work

Someone had decided they could not come

They had done the arithmetic and closed the tab. Then a place came free that they did not have to explain or apply for, and they came anyway.

That is what a gift to Choose Again USA does. Not awareness, not overhead — a chair, with a person in it.

Give once, or monthly

What a gift makes possible

Choose Again USA, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3). Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and a receipt is issued for every one.

$2,700

A full week

One person's week at El Cielo, all inclusive — accommodation, every meal, every session, and the three months of integration afterwards.

Part of one

Any amount

A gift of any size goes toward the same thing — supported places at retreats, in the monthly circle, and in counseling. Give what makes sense for you.

Monthly

The most useful kind

A standing gift is what lets us say yes to someone at the moment they ask, rather than when funds happen to allow. Small and regular is genuinely more useful than large and occasional.

How we handle it

Nobody will ever know who your gift went to

This is worth being clear about, because most charities do the opposite. You will not be sent a photograph, a first name, or a thank-you letter from the person your gift helped. They will not be told that someone paid for them, and they will never be asked to be grateful in public.

People come to this work carrying things they have not told anyone. The sliding scale only functions because taking the lower tier is invisible — the moment a supported place comes with a story attached, the people who most need one stop taking it.

So we report in aggregate: what was given, and how many places it made. Never who filled them.

Who gives

Mostly people who sat in the chair first

Almost every donor to Choose Again USA has done the work themselves. They know exactly what the week was worth to them, and they usually remember how close they came to not going.

That is the whole appeal, and we would rather make it plainly than dress it up: if this changed something for you, there is somebody at the same point you were at, doing the arithmetic and deciding against it.

"As a single, working parent, a stay at El Cielo seemed an impossible dream and with that single judgement my own barrier was put up. When I made the decision to get out of my own way at last, I opened up to love and possibility and everything fell into place."

Other ways to help

If money is not the thing you have

There are several ways to make room for someone that cost nothing at all.

Send someone the daily meditation. It is free, it arrives every morning, and it is how a great many people first encounter this work. Forward it on.

Tell one person honestly. Most people arrive because somebody they trusted said what it did for them. That is worth more than any advertising we could buy.

Write about your own experience. If the work changed something for you and you are willing to say so publicly, tell us — you decide how much of your name appears.

Ask your employer about matching. Many companies match charitable gifts, and most people never check. It is the simplest way to double what you give.

If you work in HR, or you are a therapist, coach or clergy. A great many people who need this say nothing. Our page for professionals tells you exactly what you would be recommending.

One chair, one person

Give what makes sense for you. Nothing is too small, and nobody who gives will ever know who came because of them.
